How to Make Money with Dating Sites

Dating sites are extremely popular on the internet. This is because most people want love, and many turn to the internet to find it. I'm sure you've heard of the Friend Finder company. The creator of that company is a billionaire. While it may be close to impossible to achieve that kind of success now, you don't have to be a billionaire to make a decent income from the internet. So in this article, I will outline the steps you need to take in order to create a profitable dating site.

Buy a Domain Name
The first thing you should do is purchase a domain name, which will be the address to your website. It's best to pick a short catchy domain name, because these are more memorable and easier to advertise. 1 to 3 words is ideal, and if possible, try to fit keywords into the name. Keywords are words that people search for on the internet when looking for dating sites. Keywords can help your website rank higher in search engines, so people find it easily.

Design the Site
I don't know much about website design, just HTML (which took me about 4 hours to learn the basics of). But nonetheless, I own a few dating websites and I didn't even pay for them. There's different types of software out there for dating websites, and many of them are free. Most of this software offers people the chance to own a dating website, without having to design one. It's prebuilt, all you have to do is install it, and in some cases, modify it. Most of them will put ads at the bottom of each page, and you can pay them to remove the ads. I still have the ads on most my sites, it doesn't bother me and is not very noticeable. But if you want a custom website and are willing to pay for it, then it's best to hire a designer for this job. You can post your criteria on a number of sites, such as Elance and GetaFreeLancer. You specificy how much you are willing to pay for the job to be done, and website designers will bid on the project and you can choose which one you want to hire for the job, at a set rate.

Find a Host
You will need a website host to host your website. There are so many different website hosts out there, but you will want to find one that can offer all the requirements your website needs. Space is most important. With a dating site, your member base is constantly growing. So you may want to purchase a hosting package that includes lots of space. Also, it's best to find out what specifications your website needs. If you are using prebuilt website software, there should be a page on the developer's website that lists the requirements you will need in order for the software to work. For example, the software I used required PHP, so I had to find a host that offers PHP (this wasn't very difficult since most hosts offer it nowadays). If you're having someone else design your website, then ask them what specifications are needed or ask if they can recommend a host.

Making Money
Once your dating site is finished and live, it's time to get down to making money. You will have to decide how you want to make money. Most of the prebuilt website software that I mentioned earlier will provide different methods of making money. For the software I use, they offer the ability to make the site a pay site, or a free site. If you are having someone design the website for you, then you will want to let them know which features you want in your site, as far as payment and banners go. With a free site, you can make money by placing banners or ads on the site. Companies such as Google and Yahoo have programs where you can place ads on your site, and when your visitors click the ads, you make money. So even though your site is free, you can still make money. You can also make it a pay site, to where people have to pay to become a member. Not many people nowadays are willing to pay to join a dating site, because they realize there is already so many free dating communities online already. So if you choose the pay method, you will have to be creative to make it a success.

Getting Visitors There are a number of different ways to get visitors to come to your website and sign up. I personally use paid advertising, but this can really cost a lot and it may be hard to see a decent return-over-investment. If you're paying .50 cents a visitor, but only making .20 cents a visitor from the ads, this business model will obviously not work. Some free ways of getting visitors is to make videos and advertise your site in the videos, then upload them to all the major social sites online. You can also advertise your site on forums or other types of social websites that permit it.
